Read Novel

I've just read novel that I bought last week.

The novel is If You Could See Me Now written by Cecelia Ahern, the No1 bestselling author of PS, I Love You.

But I haven't finished to read all the chapters.
Still on chapter 6 over 43. :)

I found statements that I could write down in you, Serena, as my critical t
hinking assignment.

Here they are:

Elizabeth swallowed hard and nodded, "one more chance, Colm", she gulped and feeling her pride disintegrating. "Just give her one more chance, please. I'll keep an eye on her. I promise she won't be out of my sight for a minute. She's going to get better, you know. She just needs time to work things out".
page 36

Analyze with critical thinking:
The statement above is type of Material Fallacy that is Ad populum appeal to Pity.

Ad populum appeal to Pity attempts to make you feel sympathy or sadness so that you will agree with other person's argument or feeling sorry for someone or something.

In this story, Elizabeth tried to persuade Colm so her beloved sister, Saoirse, had not to go to court because her criminal action, which was drove car when drunk and no license for driving.
Elizabeth wanted Colm to be sympathy to them, Elizabeth and Saoirse.

Next one...

Elizabeth exploded...then Elizabeth continued, "Today you are going to your granddad's and if I hear from him that there was one mention of Ivan, you will be in big trouble! Do you understand?" Luke began to cry softly.
page 69

Analyze with critical thinking:
Remember the fallacy which says Attempts to make you feel intimidated, or worried you, or will be hurt unless you agree with the person's argument.

Yup! That is Ad populum appeal to Force.

The statement is using Ad populum appeal to Force. Elizabeth made Luke felt so intimidated until Luke wanted to cry.

Well,well...
I want to continue to read now..

See You Serena..

jogging

Hi Serena,

there is something coming up in my mind.
I'm going to use Unknown Biography to tell you about the picture that I found just now.

Here it is:

Her name is Santana. Before she's running in this picture, she was on the her house, she made breakfast for her husband and her children first. Then she decided to jogging that morning.
After she had jogging, she came back home. She showered and was ready to go to work. She didn't forget to have her breakfast too.

mom..dad..miss you.. :)

My father and my mother called me just now.
Yeah, I was so happy.

So many Interrogative Questions in our conversation.

Interrogative Questions are questions intended to solicit information from you.
Yup! My parent were using it.

Such as :

"how are you, epha?"
"what are you doing now?"

"have you done all your assignments yet?"
"how was your ISS night?" "have you had your dinner?"
"so, when the exactly are you coming back?"

"what kind of bag do you like? because father is going to Bali tomorrow" (new bag, I love it..!)
"Do you have class for tomorrow?"

but there is a leading question which my father told me :

"how could you even think that your brothers don't miss you?" of course they do, but they have slept now(because I asked him before where my brothers were, why they didn't talk to me, then I think they don't miss me like you..hehe).

Serena, I really miss them.
But it's ok. I'll meet them soon.
:)

Re-Write The Ending Story of a Movie

Hi Serena

Now I'm going to re-write the ending story for one of my favorites movie, that is A Walk To Remember. Actually, I love the ending. But still, it feels so sad for me. So now, I'll change it.

First...

The Real Story

Landon Carter is a famous but rebellious guy at his fellow high school with his friends. But one time, he gets his punishment from the high school because he is founded for entering the forbidden area at a factory and with a guy whom injured that time. He has to participate after-school activities like tutoring and performing in drama. Then he meets Jamie Sullivan, a quiet girl and loves books very much. Landon asks her to help him for learning his line of the scripts. And Jamie agrees. But one day, when Jamie asks him if they will meet after school for practice the script together, Landon responds only "in your dreams". It really makes Jamie feels so embarrassed, moreover Landon says it in front of his friends. From that time they aren't close anymore and Landon has to learn and practice the script by himself. The play is started. During the play, Jamie surprised Landon and the audience with her beauty and voice when she sings the song. Landon kisses Jamie at the end of the play, which is not in the script. From that time, Landon tries to get closer to Jamie but Jamie rejects him on and on. Until Landon finds his friends mock Jamie by sharing picture of "modified" Jamie. Landon is so mad. He protects Jamie by hitting his best friend and since that time he stay away from his friends and get closer with Jamie. Landon tries to make her dreams come true. Start from "being two places at once" and tattoo. Finally, Jamie tells the truth to Landon if she has leukemia. Landon is shocked. Then he tries many things to make all the Jamie's dreams come true such as building telescope so Jamie can see a comet.
The story ends
with Jamie's death and before that Landon and Jamie's married in the church, where Jamie's parents get married, which is the top Jamie's dream.
I was so sad when Jamie's died.

So my happy ending story is:

After they get married, they spent their life together. Suddenly, Landon asks Jamie to check her condition. Jamie refuses it but Landon still encourages her then Jamie agrees. Surprisingly, doctor says there is miracle. No his knowledge could describe what happens with Jamie. No cancer anymore in her body. It is miracle!! God gives second chance to live. Jamie and Landon can't believe it so they try to check again in other doctor. And the doctor says the same thing. Jamie can be a normal and healthy person again. They are very happy and thank to God. Day by day, Jamie's condition is going better. Then finally, God gives them one more time happiness. They have twins. Realizing how God loves them so much, they give their children their loves and they enjoys their life gratefully together..

:)

So nice...

I love it - N92

Now 14th April 2008, 11:05pm, Serena...

I think I still have an idea about critical thinking..

Hmm.. I'm going to try BRAINSTORMING right now..

ok, I'll start and try..

What are in my mind if somebody show me a Nokia N92?

In 5 minutes.. go.!

1 minute..
...
...
...
...
5 minutes !! done..!

This is the list what come in my mind if somebody shows me a Nokia N92:
  • send sms and mms
  • play songs or musics
  • take pictures
  • for style or accessories
  • edit pictures
  • record voice or video
  • play games
  • throw it away to thief or evil people
  • communication
  • businesses
  • video streaming
  • put notes in
  • reminder
  • alarm
  • video call
  • internet banking
  • website
yup! those are from my mind if somebody shows me the Nokia N92.

I'll continue tomorrow, Serena..
Good nite..

apologize - song

Recently I love to hear a song “Apologize” from One Republic feat Timbaland. It is a nice song from the lyric itself and also the melody of the song.

There are parts of the lyric that I think related to critical thinking (again..hehehe)
Here they are:

“I'd take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
But it's nothing new

I loved you with a fire red-Now it's turning blue,

And you say..."Sorry" like the angel heaven let me think was you

but I'm afraid...

It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late”

Analyze :

“I'd take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
My assumption for this lyric is he would do everything for the girl whom he loves and he wants the girl be his girlfriend, his love. He would make any sacrifice to get her love.

And I need you like a heart needs a beat
This is a Simile. There’s a comparative qualifier “like”.
He really needs the girl for his life. It sounds he can not live without her. (Assumption)

I loved you with a fire red-Now it's turning blue
It is a metaphor. He loves her very much (fire red), really lover her.
But then, he doesn’t love her anymore (turning blue), I’m sure there are reasons why he doesn’t love her anymore.

And you say..."Sorry" like the angel heaven let me think was you
It is a Simile. He describes the girl says Sorry like angel.
I think the girl tries to say Sorry from the bottom of her heart. She knows that she’s wrong. That is my assumption.

but I'm afraid...
It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late..

Assumption
: He wants to tell the girl if he’s really sick because of what she has done to him. He doesn’t want her come into his heart or life again even she tries to say sorry. It is too late for her to fix all the bad things that have happened to both of them which make their relationship broke up.

I love this song very much, Serena...

presentation

short story here, Serena..

I had Information System class today, 14th April 2008.
Before the class started, Icha (my friend) came into the class.
She had had her presentation before she attended the Informational System class.

Then I asked her, "how's the presentation?"
She answered, "so-so"

My friend's answered is over-generality.
Over-generality happens when the meaning of the words is very clear and understandable but the statement refers to an idea that is not sufficiently specific to allow us to determine the important ideas that are being shared.

The answer "so so" is very clear and I understand it. But I couldn't determine the important ideas that are being shared. I conclude that the presentation is just so-so.

Ok, we'll continue doing the assignment later...

"big no no" Election

Hi Serena, how are you today?

I hope you are fine..

I found a picture from website today.

Here’s the picture:

I am going to use Creativity Writing Technique “Unknown Biography”.

Let’s Start..

Her name is Alby, her full name actually is Alby Strongiati.

She’s just graduated from Princeton University, New Jersey for Doctoral Program of Politics major.

In this picture, she was having her own campaign for US Senator election.

She decided to have her campaign at different place. Informal and Cool place. She thought that she could change boys and girls’ thinking about politics by having campaign in young boys and girls’ favorite event. And of course to encourage them to chose her as US Senator. So, Alby chose MTV Movie Awards 2006 event as the place where she campaigned at.

In the middle of the event, she came out from the backstage, surprising all the people there.

“I know all of you guys feel surprise with me in this event. Well, I’m Alby, I am one of the candidates for US Senator. You know, I’m very concern with what’s going on in America. All the people of the world only think that America only loves WAR. That's why, I want to change their minds about America.
I have my own vision for making America becomes cooler country. I know very well about what the up-to-date things that happen today. I’m very good in fashion. I love music very much, and that is my reason why I choose this place be my campaign place. I’ll combine politics with music and fashion so you guys won’t get bored with politics. And I’ll always hear your voice to make our country becomes cool-fabulous-freshy country.”

“Trust me! And you won’t be disappointed!” she said loudly and enthusiastically.

The people thought first, tried to analyze what she was talking about. I am sure, they have no idea about it. But they still gave Alby big applause.

But unfortunately, at the election event, she didn’t be elected as US Senator. How pity she was. Believe me, I don't know why.

Next year, she applied to be a lecturer in Multimedia University. And she also followed Miss Universe election. I think she never gives up with trouble situation that she faces and always tries something new for her life.

Well, Good Luck Alby..!

Wish you all the best.

chatting

Serena... meet you again...
I've just come back from International Student Society Night.
It was so fun, but there was something that made me so upset..

Just forget it..
hahaha...

Let's talk about Critical Thinking..

I chatted with my friend from Jakarta just now.. We spoke about many things. Her campus, the condition of Indonesia now on, her family, new songs, and her mid term exam result..

She told me she got B for a subject, and of course I was happy to hear that as I know that is a tough subject. Then she told me about her classmate. She said that her friend was really happy got B. Not just happy but very pleased like he met beautiful diamonds or got 1 billion rupiahs for that time. He screamed loudly, laughed out loud, jumped happily like a craziest person she had ever seen. My friend asked why he acted like that, his answer "because I did not learn at all, Lisa..really, I just wrote down something on the paper then submitted it..that's my luck! hahaha... or maybe that is happened because the pen. I'll use the pen so I can get good score again for other exams.."
My friend laughed when she heard that, but she remembered her friend to be prepared for final exam later on.

I realized that time if my friend was using theory of critical thinking. But she did not know it.
Lisa's friend was very pleased or very happy like he met beautiful diamonds or got 1 billion rupiahs. It is a type of Simile. Lisa compared her friend's action about his score like met something fantastic in his life.
The other type of Simile is Lisa's friend screamed loudly, laughed, and jumped happily
like a crazy person.

Lisa's friend also used critical thinking theory, that is Post Hoc Fallacy. We know from the statement "maybe that is happened because the pen. I'll use the pen so I can get good score again for other exams.."
Lisa's friend tried to explain if he got B because of using the pen. It might be relevant but it does not prove that the pen is the cause why he got B.

It is really fun story from my friend.. Then we ended our conversation after talked about assignment. haha...

Hmm..that's all for today, Serena..
Good Nite..

See You Tomorrow..!

in financial accounting class

I attended financial accounting class today, 11th April 2008
The lecturer, Madam Marianti, explained about Inventories.

Actually, it is not really tough. If we really pay attention to her teaching and always exercise with the question from the book, we realize that it is easy (but not for this time, for me).

Madam Marianti asked us whether we understood or not with this material. No answer.
Then Madam Marianti said, " come on guys, you have to practice if you want to understand the whole materials" She also said, "these are very important for all of you for the higher level of subject".

Then she asked, "do you know Management Accounting subject, right? You could take Management Accounting if you could pass this Financial Accounting subject. You pass this Financial Accounting then you could take the next one, that is Management Accounting. So, prepare yourself guys.

Then some of students felt afraid.
Huh...

What Madam Marianti said above, "You could take Management Accounting if you could pass this Financial Accounting subject. You pass this Financial Accounting then you could take the next one, that is Management Accounting.", it is type of Modus Ponen from deductive argument of Hypothetical Syllogism pattern in critical thinking. Modus Ponen also called affirming the antecedent. And this argument is valid. The conclusion is true because the premises are true.

Hmm,, I think it is enough for today, Serena....

I have to go to sleep...

GoOd NiTe...
See You TomorroW....!

long journey for dress and tickets...

Serena, how are you for today?
I'm really tired for today.
I've just come back for ISS nite's rehearsal ..

Ow yeah, today I tried to find a dress for ISS night (ISS, International Student Society) but actually the dress is not for me..hehehe..
I went to midvalley to find the dress with two my friends. It took almost 3 hours for finding the right dress. It is a really nice dress and fits to my friend.

After we had found the dress, we decided to go to Emirates Airplane office at Shangri-La Hotel for bought airplane tickets. So, we went to KL sentral first to meet our friend there. After we had arrived at KL Sentral, four of us felt confused how to get there, to Shangri-La Hotel. My friend, Bonnet, called his friend to asked the transportation so we could get there. His friend told him if we could take monorail and stopped at Bukit Nenas station. But his friend was not really sure how far the Shangri-La Hotal was with Bukit Nenas station.

Wait for a minute Serena!
Bonnet asked his friend the transportation to get the Shangri-La Hotel. It is a type of Implicit Knowledge. Bonnet's friend has stored in his mind if Shangri-La Hotel closes to Bukit Nenas
station. Bonnet involved a discussion with his friend in asking about the transportation because Bonnet asked his friend.

So, when we arrived at monorail ticket counter, for made sure, I asked the ticket seller," miss, where is the nearest monorail station to Shangri-La Hotel?" then she said Bukit Nenas monorail station. Then we bought 4 tickets to Bukit Nenas station.
This situation is same with the previous one when Bonnet asked his friend. I asked her and we we were involved in a discussion. There's a communication between me and the woman. The woman has stored at her mind if the nearest station to Shangri-La Hotel is Bukit Nenas Station.
Yes, that's implicit knowledge.

We got the Shangri-La Hotel, but where was the Emirates office?
Then my friend, Inez, opened her notebook. It was stated Shangri-La Hotel Annexe Lot 25, 1st Floor UBN Tower 10 Jalan P Ramlee 50250 Kuala Lumpur. We confused. Where was the exactly the Emirates office? in UBN tower or Shangri-La Hotel? hmm.. Ambiguous information here..

Shangri-La Hotel

OR

UBN Tower

WHICH ONE????

So, we came in first to UBN tower, exactly besides the Shangri-La Hotel. More confused there. My friend asked a man suddenly, "excuse me sir, where can we find Emirates office here?" the man said, "Emirates office is not here, but in Shangri-La Hotel". We thanked him, then we went to Shangri-La Hotel. We found the Emirates office, and we bought the tickets.
Well, I find a implicit knowledge again. My friend asked him (there is a query, right?), he knows exactly where is the Emirates office, and we were in a short discussion.

what else Serena?
I don't have any idea for this time. Let me think for a moment, please..
hehehe...

room and room

Serenaaaa....

Now it is 11:13 pm.. I'v
e just come back from dance exercise at my friend's smart home at cyberia..
I had a conversation with my friends there after we had had the dance exercise. One of my friend, ( sorry, I can't tell you her name..hehehe) asked me..
she : where do you live?
me (epha) : at hostel block
she : why do you want to stay there?
me : it's ok with hostel block
she : ooo....

suddenly she told me " you know what? my friend ever had stayed there for a while and she said that stayed in hostel block was not comfortable. The room was dirty and untidy. It only has two bathroom at each floor. It's limited there. No kitchen. So, I think all the rooms at the hostel block are just like that, messy and uncomfortable.."

I laughed "hahahahha...that's not true, maybe it was only one room. Besides that, the bathroom is big. We don't have to queue.." but suddenly I realized, I could state that statement on you, Serena...hahahaha..thanks God..

If we see my friend's statement above, it is related too with what I learned in Critical Thinking just now at this morning class.
It is Fallacy of Hasty Generalization. Hasty Generalization is a generalization in which there are not enough instances on which to conclude that the condition will always exist or that the event will happen everywhere.

" you know what? my friend ever had stayed there for a while and she said that stayed in hostel block was not comfortable. The room was dirty and untidy. It only has two bathroom at each floor. It's limited there. No kitchen. So, I think all the rooms at the hostel block are just like that, messy and uncomfortable.."
See Serena? It is Fallacy of Hasty Generalization. My friend tried to conclude that all the rooms were same with the one room which was her friend told her, messy and uncomfortable. She did not have enough example to conclude it, actually.
It was only one room, where her friend stayed for a while, right? About the kitchen, I think it depends on each person. whether she/he likes to cook by own self or not.

...Part of my and my roommate's, Inez, bedroom...

My bedroom, my cupboard, my table, my windows, and this is the room
what do you think?

Serena, I think it's done for today.

We are going to continue it tomorrow.. with new idea, new situation..hahaha..

It's very nice to work with you for our first day job..

Good Night, Serena...
See You tomorrow...!

hello diary..my first topics are on you now.. :)

Hi diary, how are you? It's nice to meet and made you on this site.. hahaha..
Is it sound nice if I call you only "diary"? well, I guest no. Let's give you a name.

hmmm...how about "Serena"? I've just watched TV series, that is Gossip Girl.
There's a girl named Serena. She's kind o
f a best friend for her friend. Never let her friend being alone with troubles. And always be there when her friend needs her help. Well, I hope you can be like that, because you have to (hehehe). You have to be with me at least for this whole one week, help me to do the assignment.. and I'm sure, you are going to help me..

Let's start, Serena...

now, 10th April 2008
I read a question at living tech part, "Who needs a laptop when you can pack your life onto the palm?" written by Gene Khor from LIME magazine, page 33, December 2007 edition.
Based on what I've learned from Critical Thinking subject, this question is a leading question form. Why?
From the definition, leading question is a question that is worded in a way that will "guide" the person being questioned in making his or her response. This question is also trying to guide someone's answer in a certain direction, trying to get them say the things that you want them to.
"Who needs a laptop when you can pack your life onto the palm?"
Palm is more simple than laptop. It is smaller, slimmer and of course easier to us to bring it with us because it is lighter that laptop. The function of PDA is same with laptop. You can save your files (any kind of files such as pictures, music, word data).
This question is telling us if we better use device such as Palm rather than laptop because those reasons (smaller, slimmer, and easier to bring with). And through this question, the editors is trying to persuade the readers to say the same things or agree with him/her. The editor trying to get the readers say the things that the editor want the readers to, that is "yes, I prefer to Palm than Laptop" or "I'm going to change my old laptop with the simple PALM"

Palm

Laptop

Well, we only have one idea until this time, Serena..
hmm... just wait for a minute Serena. I'll be back with another thing so we could analyze it soon.
